Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director, School of Health, Wellness & Human Services

The Assistant Director, School of Health, Wellness & Human Services fosters student success through consistent outreach, engagement, and delivery of student support services to an identified cohort of students within their School. Using intrusive intervention and case management methodologies, the Assistant Director will increase student retention, success, and completion, and students' feelings of belonging. They will co-create and facilitate a variety of educational and co-curricular programming focused on the holistic development of students. Special emphasis is placed on the building of meaningful relationships with students while supporting them as they meet their goals.

• Serve as success navigator to an identified cohort of students, focusing consistent outreach, engagement, and delivery of student support services, and intrusively intervening as necessary to support the student through their degree completion
• Utilize Lazer Success (Starfish) and other related systems to monitor student success. Develop and implement intervention plans to address early alert concerns/referrals
• Meet with students on a regular basis to develop and review individualized success plans
• Partner within students' networks, including but not limited to their faculty, organization advisors, etc., to support student success while also assessing progress toward academic goals, persistence, and attendance
• Co-facilitate Schools-based enrollment, engagement, and success events that foster a positive living-learning environment, college-wide collaborations, an appreciation of diversity, mutual respect, and student retention as directed by the Student Success Specialist
• Actively participate in innovative summer engagement activities for new and prospective participants
• Coordinate student referrals to appropriate services to overcome social and economic barriers
• Assist students with academic success by connecting them with academic tutoring and study groups, as well as various other support services offered at the College
• Provide information and feedback to the Student Success Specialist to assist in the development of reports and/or assessment activities
• Assist with the development of Schools-based publications and communication, including facilitating informational presentations as well as connecting with parents or appropriate support members
• Provide post-award grant coordination support for projects related to work of the School and its students
• In collaboration with the Student Success Specialist, co-create and facilitate the School's student-facing activities,including but not limited to orientation, open house, convocation, student advisement and academic planning, recruiting,and career and transfer networking events
• Support non-credit workforce education programs:
  • In conjunction with Recruiting, coordinate and participate in information sessions for non-credit workforce programs
  • Connect with community agencies to promote opportunities within HWHS
  • Participate in student onboarding, matriculation and registration activities for non-credit workforce programs within HWHS
  • Working in concert with the Career & Transfer Services, provide students with career preparation support and education, including assisting with resume writing and interview preparation
  • Coordinate workforce completion survey to collect data to meet requirements of grant-funded initiatives, inform curricular development and revision, and review by applicable Advisory Board
• Perform other duties and special assignments as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalency and one year of relevant professional experience working with and/or mentoring college students (preferably at the community college level), or equivalent combination of education and experience at a 2:1 ratio is required.

• Direct experience working with diverse populations, including those who are educationally and economically disadvantaged

• Availability for limited evening and weekend commitments

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with needs, trends, and best practices of advising, success coaching, student navigation, and/or case management
• Experience with program or curricular design
• Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Knowledge of best practices for career and transfer services
• Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
• Experience with program evaluation
• Demonstrated commitment to personal and departmental development, professionalism, multicultural education,creativity, collaboration, and initiative
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize among competing needs
• Ability to utilize assessment to guide initiative development
• Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and sensitive manner
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse student population, parents, and staff
• Possess a willingness to take initiative on new projects and embrace change

Additional Information:

• Salary range is: $53,240 - $66,550, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
