SUNY Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY is currently recruiting for an Assistant Director of Data Analytics and Reporting

 

The Assistant Director of Data Analytics and Reporting contributes to the design and maintenance of modern, repeatable analytics solutions that support student success, institutional effectiveness, and strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares statistical reports and data visualizations; documents data-related processes and procedures.
  • Assists in the development and utilization of enrollment forecasting, budget planning, revenue calculations and other operational models of higher education.
  • Collects and analyzes data used in support of institutional planning and budgeting activities.
  • Queries data from the College's student information system.
  • Monitors and reports trends related to institutional indices and benchmarks.
  • Prepares written reports and studies pertaining to enrollment and other higher education operating parameters.
  • Provides advice, guidance and support to management level administrators, faculty and others on access, report generation, and interpretation of data.
  • Designs and generates regular and ad hoc management reports to support operations, tactical planning and strategic planning of the College.
  • Analyzes data and provides recommendations.
  • Assists in responding to mandatory SUNY, State and Federal reports (IPEDS, NYSED, etc) by utilizing currently available internal and external data sources.
  • Models institutional information flow and recommends policies, procedures, and systems for data collection and management.
  • Recognizes data integrity problems; research causes and recommends solutions.
  • Administers, maintains and manages data elements dictionaries for data sets the department uses and makes it available to others. 
  • Develops, maintains, and documents repeatable scripts (Python, R, SQL) for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Assists with Shared Institutional Research (IR) activities to support other campuses with data analytics and reporting.
  • Serves as liaison with the Information Technology department and SUNY systems administrators on data issues.
  • Understands and supports the ongoing process of creating, maintaining and accessing the college's data warehouse.
  • Understands, promotes and enforces institutional data standards and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, college or foreign equivalency and 3-5 years professional experience in data analytics, institutional research, or related fields

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Master's degree from an accredited university, college or foreign equivalency
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with Power BI (or similar BI tools) including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, and publishing interactive dashboards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the areas of research design and statistical analysis and quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Ability to query complex database systems to collect and organize data for research and reporting purposes
  • Capacity to present complex information to faculty including in graphical formats
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative research methods, including surveys, environmental scanning, focus groups, and statistical analysis and reporting
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, relationship-building and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with computerized data analysis tools such as SPSS, SAS, SQL, R, or Python
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, commitment to diversity and demonstrated experience working in team environment

Additional Information:

  • Salary range is: $58,564 - $73,205, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
