JPW Structural Contracting located in Syracuse, NY is currently seeking to add a Material Handler to join their team! Position is Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m (Saturdays Optional)

 

JPW Companies is the leading New York State AISC Certified Steel Fabricator and Erector, and is seeking to fill an opening we have at our Syracuse, NY Structural Steel Fabrication Facility.

Responsibilities

Material Handlers play a key role in the success of the company. They must follow company policies and work in harmony with co-workers and management to ensure the Company’s success. They perform the day-to-day activities required of them in the shop with the goal of meeting the production schedule set forth by the Shop Foreman, all while maintaining a safe working environment and staying within quality standards.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Handles, moves, and stores steel parts, equipment, and other materials throughout the facility.
  • Assists with loading and unloading materials and equipment from trucks and trailers.
  • When applicable labels and records location of inventory
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly

Qualifications

Skill Requirements:

  • Honesty, integrity and a strong desire to succeed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing during course of employment.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds
  • Possess coordination, physical strength, and agility to complete required tasks within the allotted time frame.
  • Able to quickly and repeatedly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with body, arms and/or legs without restriction.
  • Able to hear orders clearly and withstand sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable, but within the OSHA standard for permissible exposure limits (PEL).
  • Acceptable visual acuity, either corrected or uncorrected.
  • Crawling, crouching, working in confined spaces

Safety:

  • Works in a manner by which they and those around them are kept safe from injury.
  • Always wear the proper PPE including, but not limited to, safety glasses, shields, and gloves.
  • Always uses the proper safety guards and mechanisms in place for all equipment used.
  • Must report any injury to the shop foreman as soon as possible.
  • Encouraged to share any and all safety concerns to shop foreman and or Human Resources.

The performance of the Material Handler will be evaluated on the following criteria:

From the in house milling and machining department, to our burn tables and waterjet, to the new Peddinghaus Steel processing system, and our separate Stainless Steel Fabrication Facility. Between our Blasting Facility and our AISC Certified Paint booth, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more qualified setup. JPW’s Fab Shop is full of state of the art techniques and equipment, with skilled employees putting it all to use daily. Our bays are all equipped with 2 10-ton overhead cranes to provide us with the capability to tackle even the largest jobs. Our facility also includes an in-house detailing department utilizing the most up to date and innovative software available, giving JPW the edge when it comes to complex projects.

  • Miscellaneous Steel Design and Fabrication, Load testing (ie. Stairs, Ladders, Lifting fixtures, Spreader beams, Pusher Snow plows, buckets, blade fixtures)
  • Plate Weldment Fabrications/ in house bending & rolling capabilities
  • Press breaks up to 12’ long with 250 ton capacities
