Onondaga Community College, located in Syracuse, NY is currently recruiting for Applied Engineering Faculty - Full-Time, Tenure Track

 

Major responsibilities of this position include college-level teaching of Electrical, Electromechanical (Mechatronics), and/or Mechanical Technology courses and laboratories in content areas such as machining, manufacturing, engineering drawing creation, circuit design and analysis, digital electronics, microprocessor, programmable logic controllers, and other typical electromechanical technical areas. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, curriculum development, participation on committees, and collaboration with colleagues to assess student learning outcomes.

Knowledge of electromechanical applications in demand by local industry is also valued, including, but not limited to: hydraulics & pneumatics, robotics, soldering & electronic assembly, electrical test & measurement, mechanical assembly techniques, motors & controllers, sensors & machine vision, and industrial control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsive to student questions and available for student support
  • Use appropriate technology to enhance learning
  • Assess learning outcomes and adapt curriculum to meet learning objectives
  • Demonstrate insight and encouragement in working with diverse student populations, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education
  • Provide appropriate academic advising to students to support timely degree completion
  • Be innovative in the presentation of lectures and hands-on learning activities that achieve learning outcomes
  • Provide timely feedback on students' assignments and exams throughout each semester
  • Be accountable to meet the needs of the Department and the College, including timely submission of grades and other required materials.

Qualifications

 

Appointment at the Rank of Instructor:

  • Associate's degree in the subject areas of Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or closely-allied field;
  • Industry-recognized professional license or certification; and
  • Minimum of five years of full-time related industry experience

Appointment at the Rank of Assistant Professor:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely-allied field;
  • Industry-recognized professional license or certification.
  • Minimum of three years of full-time employment in Engineering or closely allied field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Background in teaching college level courses
  • Demonstrated connections with local industry
  • Experience with the following machine tools:
    • Manual Vertical & Horizontal Mills
    • Engine Lathe
    • 3 Axis Vertical CNC Milling
    • CNC Programmin
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English (English and another language also will be considered)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project)
  • Familiar with some or all of the following software programs:
    • Autocad, Inventor, Solidworks, Creo, Fusion 360
    • LabView, PLC Programming, CNC Programming
    • Matlab, Python
    • Quartus II, Circuit Maker 6

Additional Information:

The 2023-2024 starting salary for the rank of Instructor is $50,000 and Assistant Professor is $56,250.  Salaries for 2024-2025 are not yet available.  Full-time faculty can make an additional $15,000-$20,000 annually by teaching more than 15 credits in each regular semester and by teaching during off-hand (e.g., summer) periods.

During each fall and spring semester, teaching typically occurs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 10:30 pm. Schedules, including five required office hours each week, are selected in advance for each semester.
