Responsibilities

To help us meet our mission, LOTTE BIOLOGICS is in need of a Sr Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) who will lead and manage a high-performing EHS team by working in a collaborative manner to achieve company objectives. Client groups include internal and external partners essential to successful business continuity.   This role is responsible for regulatory compliance as well as corporate EHS requirements. This role includes oversight of environmental and safety permits, regulation for all safety programs – construction and general industry, waste/wastewater management, industrial hygiene, and biosafety. This role must comply with all security guidelines, environment, health, and safety (EHS) regulations and the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) required by the job function.

  • Team leader for EHS organization
  • Functions as (or delegates) site biosafety officer and chairs Biological Safety Committee.
  • Reviews and provides initial approval of Biological Assessment of Risk (BAR) for introduction of new materials and processes.
  • Drives safety culture at the site, partnering with all teams to ensure all are accountable to ownership of the safety culture and performance of the company. Responsible to advance culture in an effective manner
  • Maintains critical management system for compliance with regulatory and company requirements, including incident management (investigations, and resulting action plans) and leads team in execution of an effective, repeatable EHS investigation program.
  • Identifies and ensures key EHS metrics, requirements, and infrastructure are incorporated for sustainable EHS compliance, and that site goals contribute to overall corporate sustainability goals.
  • Ensure goals and objectives are aligned with site and corporate EHS partners. Collaborate closely with Occupational Health Services and be responsible for maintaining required OSHA logs and reports.
  • Responsible for interfacing and communication with outside regulatory agencies.
  • Represent the site for all applicable inspections and audits.
  • Provides EHS oversight of detailed plan reviews, facility permitting, regulatory strategy, maintenance, operability and insurance reviews.
  • Active development and participation in site initiatives that may be external beyond EHS scope.
  • Support Tier meeting infrastructure across the site, representing EOHSS and business needs.
  • Supports Associate Director and Senior Leadership initiatives and activities.
  • Teams with department leadership to develop annual operating budget/staffing needs and manages operation to achieve desired goals. Participates actively with the Senior Leadership Team to carry out Business Mission, Business Values, attain annual goals and objectives, and actively contribute to and grow the desired culture.
  • Manages contract resources and external service providers to support chemical, biological and wastewater management programs.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/ Licenses/Certifications:

  • Knowledge of science generally attained through studies resulting in a B.S. in science, engineering, a related discipline or its equivalent. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is desired. EHS related degree preferable.
  • A minimum of 8 years of EHS experience in an industrial EH&S role, including leadership at a multi-facility campus is desirable.
  • Experience in managing EH&S in a multi-facility campus or environment. Execution examples which are supported by a documented history of technical accomplishments.
  • Industry Professional Certification Preferred (CSP, CIH, or QEP).
  • Professional license or certification in appropriate discipline desired.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, etc:

  • A practical understanding of the technologies related to bioprocess manufacturing and their respective health, safety and environmental impact and compliance requirements is preferred.
  • Experience in biopharmaceutical cGMP preferred.
  • Proven ability working in a matrix environment and leading multi-level/cross functional teams to achieve the highest performance in meeting site and departmental objectives.
  • Experience in developing and monitoring employee safety programs.
  • Experience in professional interactions with governmental regulatory officials to obtain permits and manage site inspections.
  • Knowledge and use of current state computer programs used to support documentation and administration of EHS programs.
  • Proven acumen in teambuilding and providing influence in positive decision making for global business health and support.
  • Ability to influence and drive a sustainable safety culture.

Physical Demands:

  • Potential exposure to all hazardous conditions is anticipated since considerable amount of time is spent in site operations.
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • This position is a team-based position that requires some on-call support to rotating shift work which will be on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs as needed.

 Work Environment:

 The position works closely with manufacturing operations, facilities and engineering, administrative and lab environments which will require an office base with some outside work, lab space work, and classified area work.

Travel:

This position requires up to 5% travel to offsite meetings, training, conferences, seminars, etc.
