Oneida Molded Plastics (OMP) is actively seeking an experienced and highly motivated Planning & Procurement Manager to join our team in Oneida, NY. OMP strives to build a production team with a high degree of talent. The right candidate will collaborate with multiple functions and departments to ensure best planning practices.  This position will foster active and open communications while inspiring team collaboration to ensure strong teamwork, vested engagement and strategic alignment.

 

The Planning & Procurement Manager coordinates, organizes, and oversees activities involved in the identification, acquisition, inventory, and distribution of the materials for the company.   They will also oversee and assist customer service employees in the performance of their job duties such as responding to customer inquiries and resolving issues or complaints.

Oneida Molded Plastics is committed to providing fair compensation for all employees. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: currently held skills and experience levels, currently held education levels, local cost of living, designated shifts, and current and relevant compensation data available. Candidates reviewed for open positions may be more or less experienced than the role posted; if this is the case, any updates to local available compensation and salary ranges will be communicated with candidates during the recruitment process.

Responsibilities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements and maintain resources for equipment, materials, products, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Establishes performance metrics for measurement, comparison, or evaluation of factors affecting the planning and procurement processes.
  • Develops and maintains detailed inventories of materials and supplies located in the company, at sites, and in the factory.
  • Develops and maintains inventory databases for supplies and materials used.
  • Maintains required quantity of supplies and materials to optimize production.
  • Analyzes current inventories and procedures; suggests improvements to increase efficiency and profitability for the company.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, prices, buyers, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; directs purchasing programs accordingly.
  • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
  • Monitors and reviews calls and other correspondence between representatives and customers.
  • Ensures that representatives are informed about changes to company products and services.
  • Collects data and prepares reports on customer complaints and inquiries.
  • Prepares monthly reports summarizing the assigned customer service team’s performance.
  • Prepares knowledge-based documents such as summaries and responses to frequently asked questions.
  • Drafts, explains, updates, and implements instructions, policies, and procedures for purchasing contract management, production scheduling and customer service.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to planning, procurement, and inventory control with a goal to maximize efficiency, ensure quality and safety, and optimize work-flow.
  • Negotiates prices for raw material and delivery with suppliers, vendors, and/or shipping companies.
  • Collaborates with sales, customer service, production scheduling, and logistics departments to maximize efficiency in the purchasing and inventory control department.
  • Participates as an advisory member of the planning and development teams, providing information and guidance on availability and cost of supplies and materials.
  • Acts as part of the team coordinating engineering changes, product line extension, or new product launches to ensure timely and orderly material and production flow transitions.
  • Monitors the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality and delivery requirements; identifies and qualifies new suppliers in collaboration with other departments.
  • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintains and/or implements planning and purchasing record-keeping systems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, shippers, and customers.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of company products and logistics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, IQMS ERP software, and related software.
  • All employees must be able to demonstrate an understanding of safety, quality, and efficiency while contributing to the overall success of the company by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required.
  • At least five years of experience in a related field required.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hires and trains departmental team members.
  • Oversees the daily work-flow and schedules of the department.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
