To help us meet our mission LOTTE Biologics is in need of a Control System Hardware Engineer- Automation to join our Digital Plant Team. The Control System Hardware Engineer is a key member of the Digital Plant team supporting process controlled automated systems at the Syracuse, NY manufacturing facility. The primary role of the automation Hardware Engineer is to design, lead and own the hardware design for the Digital Plant Automation Systems. This role will work directly with Digital Plant Engineers in determining hardware requirements, developing specifications, implementing hardware strategies, testing designs and working safely and efficiently in a high compliance environment.   

Responsibilities

  • Builds and Influences vendor hardware roadmaps to align with LBK strategy.
  • Create/ Maintain a critical spare parts strategy for the various hardware components supporting the Automation systems.
  • Owns end-to-end responsibility for managing the hardware design and technical support for Automation projects.
  • Support the hardware operation of all GMP/ Non GMP manufacturing systems (Process Automation Systems and Building Automation Systems) in the Manufacturing facilities at Syracuse, NY.
  • Support any vendor specific software needed to configure the hardware components of the various control systems onsite.
  • Investigate the root cause of Digital Plant hardware problems and propose solution to prevent recurrence.
  • Support the configuration, testing and implementation of process control hardware solutions to a variety of complex technical projects.
  • Ensure the documentation of the knowledge base on how to resolve hardware issues encountered, thus facilitate the job for future activities.
  • Conduct all job activities in accordance with cGMP and EHS requirements.
  • Provide training of automated solutions with Automation and Instrumentation staff to ensure understanding how the hardware functions to assist with troubleshooting during off hours.
  • Owns, updates and works as a liaison between the Automation department and the site drawing department to build and update I/O loop sheets and drawing sets as applicable for Automation projects.
  • Research and propose new hardware technologies to ensure cost reduction and increased reliability

Qualifications

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, etc:

  • Knowledge of products and technologies provided by major automation vendors, including but not limited to: Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell Allen Bradley.
  • Experience in deploying computing hardware and communication systems that include PCs, servers, thin clients, Ethernet infrastructure.  Knowledge of instrumentation busses (Foundation FieldBus, ProfiBus, DeviceNet, etc.) a plus.
  • Ability to develop and execute innovative hardware solutions for continuous improvement.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD drawing files, Industry Design Standards, Cabinet Layout Drawings.
  • Technical problem solving and analysis skills as well as good communications skills (verbal and written). 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead or participate in multi-disciplined team environment to achieve goals.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Adaptable to a fast paced, complex and ever-changing business environment.

  

Education/Experience/ Licenses/Certifications:

  • Advanced knowledge of engineering or sciences generally attained through studies resulting in a B.S. in, engineering, science, biochemistry or related discipline or its equivalent is highly desired. 
  • Hardware design/ troubleshooting/ implementation experience 3-5yrs
  • Significant knowledge and proven expertise of hardware engineering relating to Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and Emerson Products.
  • Experienced with current industry standards for Safety and Automation and with current government regulations regarding biotech-producing facilities.

Physical Demands:

This position is an combination field and office-based position which requires appropriate levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) when field work is required.  Frequent repeated motions such as keyboarding are required. 

 

Work Environment:

This position is based indoors and you will primarily be working with others, but also independently and alone at times. This position is a team & project-based role that allows for a 50% onsite/ remote work presence over a two-week period.

Travel:

This position requires up to 5% of travel to support training and new product discovery conventions.
